Seville to install 4,000 tree surrounds a year to improve accessibility
Seville will install 4,000 sustainable tree surrounds per year to improve accessibility in the city’s streets. These devices, made from recycled, reusable and weather-resistant material, are adaptable to any shape of tree surround and allow water to reach the trees without any problems.
The first of these tree surrounds were installed in Torcuato Luca de Tena street. These measures are an intelligent investment that takes into account the long-term future of the city. Fifty per cent of the city’s tree-lined streets will have these installations.
This implementation is an example of the city’s commitment to improving accessibility, making Seville inclusive, diverse and equitable. The capital is a cosmopolitan, open and shared city that seeks to have a safe public space that allows everyone to enjoy the city.
Seville has placed accessibility at the centre of all its public policies for more than 20 years. In fact, the city is a pioneer on this issue. In 2005 it published its first Accessible Tourism Guide, in 2012 the Accessibility Office was created. As a result, Seville adopted its Municipal Accessibility Ordinance (2013) and the Municipal Accessibility Plan (2020). In addition, in 2018 the Municipal Accessibility Commission was created to strengthen the coordination and joint work of all municipal areas on accessibility. Therefore, the Seville 2030 Strategic Plan includes measures for the implementation of accessibility in all areas.
This type of implementation favours the improvement of accessibility and reinforces the city’s commitment to accessibility.
