The 2024 Feria de Abril, at the forefront of accessibility
Seville’s commitment to being an increasingly accessible city extends to any initiative that takes place in the city. Seville’s commitment to the intelligent management of tourist flows, as well as to the people of Seville, was evident this April Fair, when accessibility was improved to make it easier for everyone to walk around the Real.
The implementation of 30 fords at crossroads between the streets of the Real and some access points to the fairgrounds, the revision of places for people with reduced mobility, the extension of noise-free hours… are the main initiatives that have been carried out by the City Council.
One of the main measures has been the implementation of thirty fords, creating low crossings at street intersections to make it possible to walk through the Fair in an accessible way. In addition, in order to make it easier for people with autism spectrum disorders to enjoy the week of the Fair, Seville City Council extended the noise-free hours in Calle del Infierno, making it possible for them to enjoy the Fair on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 15:00 to 19:00.
On the other hand, this commitment to urban mobility has also materialised in a reinforcement of the Tussam lines as well as Metro Sevilla, which prepared special operations to ensure that everyone could get to the Fair with ease. In addition to the reinforcement of the fleets, several bus lines modified their routes to reach the Fair more efficiently.
In 2023 Seville was designated European Capital of Smart Tourism. The city’s tourism model puts citizens at the centre from four pillars: sustainability, accessibility, digitalisation and cultural heritage and creativity. Therefore, the commitment to improving accessibility as well as urban mobility at the Fair is proof of why Seville holds this capital status.
